Enjoy the Saturday Farmer’s Market, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the corner of Court & High Streets.

From 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. visitors can join in art activities and educational programs both inside the center and in the historic courtyard.  Courtyard activities include beekeeping and wild-plants native to Virginia, many of which can be used for food and medicine.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. inside the courtyard, artist Glenn Richardson will demonstrate his woodcarving abilities using chainsaws.  Mr. Richardson hails from Woodstock VA, and his art can be seen in two PACC exhibits at this time.  Glenn will perform a Mushroom Chainsaw Massacre, sponsored by the chainsaw manufacturing company of STIHL Inc.  Using an arsenal of Stihl-made chainsaws, he will carve mushrooms and other sculptures out of solid cedar blocks, creating an amazing spectacle –and smell– as the cedar wood is cut.  Protective fencing will protect viewers from flying debris.  Things may get loud.

Artist Presentation & Book Signing with Peter Loose

10:30 AM - 3:30 PM - Self-taught artist Peter Loose will bring his collection of hand-painted dulcimers, which visitors can play while Peter performs on these magical instruments. Many of his dulcimers take the form of one kind of animal or another. Peter Loose is one of the "outsider visionary artists" featured in the PACC exhibit The Beat Goes On. Visitors can see his work, as well as other artists in the exhibit, while learning about the process Peter Loose uses to create his bright, off-the-wall images, which feature many kinds of animals. Not surprisingly, Peter's home in Hull Georgia, is host to a menagerie of animals –cats, dogs, chickens, spiders, and frogs. His children's book,Bongo Has Many Friends, is a story about a real dog written and illustrated by Peter and his wife, Loose-Schrantz. Bongo Has Many Friends will be for sale at the Gallery Shop next door, and Peter will be signing these books for visitors who wish to purchase them on this day.
