43rd Annual TCC Art Faculty Exhibition

9 AM to 8 PM - Thirty-three art faculty members will display recent drawings, paintings, pottery, glass, photographs, computer generated imagery and mixed media. Participating full-time faculty includes: Ed Francis; Ed Gibbs; Rob Hawkes; Corinne Lilyard-Mitchell;
Craig Nilsen and Tom Siegmund. VAC Director, Christina Rupsch, and Founding Director, Anne Iott, will also take part.

In addition to the faculty show events, a sale of student work will take place in an adjoining space and will feature a diversity of media taught in classes at the Center.
The Visual Arts Center, TCC at Olde Towne (VAC) is located at 340 High Street, Olde Towne Portsmouth.

Galleries will be closed New Year's Day.

Holiday History Tours of Olde Towne Portsmouth

Conducted bythe city's founder (1752), Colonel William Crawford.

• All tours leave from the Renaissance Hotel, 425 Water Street - Portsmouth
• Fee - $10.00 per guest paid at the tour site / approx. 75-90 minutes
• Groups of 4 or more can book a tour on any day or time with reservations throughout the year.

African-American Heritage Day

9 AM – 5 PM Celebrate the rich legacy of a people as the Children's Museum hosts the annual African-American Heritage Day. The museum will offer a whirl-wind tour through the history of African American culture that will feature an interactive drum workshop, immersive storytelling, make-and-take crafts, games and more! Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum Celebrates 5O Years!

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM - Sponsored by the Friends of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum in coordination with the Portsmouth Museums, enjoy light refreshments and guided tours of the museum through the ages of Portsmouth's history. Since opening its doors to the public in January 1963, the museum has continued to research, preserve and promote the history of the City of Portsmouth, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and the armed forces in Hampton Roads. Help us commemorate the museum's milestones as we reminisce about its life—a half century and counting!

A Minority in the Midst of Crisis: Jews in the Confederate Navy

4 p.m. - Significant Civil War sea battles were fought off the Virginia Capes and at New Orleans.  Several of the sailors were Jewish. Lean more about their lives and their interesting experience as this lecture recounts their tales by master historian and storyteller John Quarstein.  $15.
