    It’s a sound safari with violinist Erik Taylor.  Portsmouth Colored Community Library Museumvisitors join Mr. Taylor on a musical journey through African-Americanhistory.  Mr. Taylor’s engaging high energy performance will pay tributeto 17th-19th African-Americans with the traditionalspirtuals that were road maps to freedom.  The journey will then swingthrough the 1940s-1960’s with jazz and Doo Wop standards from the era duringwhich PCCLM served Portsmouth’s African-American community.  The finaldestination of this sound safari will be Mr. Taylor’s violin renditions ofpopular R & B and Hip-Hop, making his masterful performance one for peopleof all ages

    This play, written by Christine Maxwell Davis, depicts Dr. King and members of his inner circle having dinner at Paschal's Restaurant. The Black-owned restaurant was one of the few places civil rights activist were allowed to meet in the U.S.'s segregated south.

Like many comedians of the big and small screen, DeRay Davis began his career performing his stand-up routine in comedy clubs. His career quickly took off after performing well-received acts on the Cedric the Entertainer Tour, which led to the funnyman appearing in many of Cedric’s films, including both Barbershop comedies and 2007’s critically panned Code Name: The Cleaner. With his vulgar yet personal stand-up act, Davis has earned significant attention in the comedy circuit.
