Multiple Abstractions

Location: Tidewater Community College Visual Arts Center

Opening Reception and Gallery Talk: Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 PM

Through their abstract creations, Sally Bowring (Richmond, VA) and Eloise Shelton-Mayo (Virginia Beach, VA) explore process driven compositions and personal meaning.  Bowring’s large-scale paintings are inspired, in part, by the gardens in Manhattans Cloisters.  Shelton-Mayo focuses on themes of transition, memory, and home in her oil and cold wax pieces.  Complementary glass vessels by Julie Larkin (Virginia Beach, VA) will be on view in the exhibit cases.  All three women create work that is both geometric and organic.  For more information, please call 757- 822-1888 or visit www.tcc.edu/vac/.

Winter Bird Walk

Location: Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve

Join us for the first bird walk of winter to see which waterfowl are making Lake Ballard their winter resting area.  Stroll around the preserve with local birding experts to identify bird in the area by sight and sound.  Bring binoculars or spotting scopes for best viewing.  Enjoy this quite time at Hoffler Creek before the gates open to daily guests.  Gates will open at 7:30am and check-in will occur at Hoffler Creek’s Headquarters before the walk.  Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.  Gates close at 8:10am.  This walk is free but a small donation is encouraged to help continue to provide similar programming.  For more information please call 757-686-8684 or visit http://www.hofflercreek.org.
