Think Big: Portsmouth and Public Art

11 AM - Traveler and art tourist, Dr. John Joyce, captures photographic images that strike his fancy and these scenes often contain public art. Joyce is a founding member of the recently formed Support for Portsmouth Public Art (SPPA), a group that meets monthly to share ideas and promote art projects that will enhance the Portsmouth community. Joyce is a self-described "art addict or rather an art tourist" who will drive 50 miles out of his way to see an art gallery or sculpture. He and several members of SPPA share this enthusiasm and have been bringing art to Portsmouth in the form of public sculpture at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, I've Been Kissed, a toad that now sits outside of the Children's Museum, or historic murals such as the one on the exterior wall of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, and more public art is on the way. Joyce will share images of projects that he has gathered during his travels as well as discuss the goals of SPPA.
