    Jack Kugelmass is a Professor of Anthropology and the Sam Melton Professor and Director of the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Florida. He received a B.A. from McGill University, an M.A., and Ph.D. from New School for Social Research. He previously taught at the Max Weinreich Center for Advanced Jewish Studies, at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Arizona State University.     Black History Now 2018: "A Salute to African-Americans in the Military

    A. United States Colored Troops 35th Regiment of New Bern - Tyron Palace's United States
    Colored Troops, 35th Regiment of New Bern will provide living history demonstrations of African-American soldiers' lives in the Union Army during the Civil War (1863-1865). The presentation will include raising and striking of the United States flag, the regimental colors, marching drills, camp songs, and demonstrations of camp supplies that the 35th Regiment of New Bern, NC used after being founded in 1863.

    B. Marvin Greer, Yorktown Reenactor - Mr. Greer will present living history demonstrations as he recounts the American Revolutionary War as James Armistead La Fayette, an African-American spy who aided in George Washington's and the Marquis de La Fayette's defeat of the British in Yorktown. Mr. Greer's presentation will feature period clothing and a black powder musket demonstration.

    C. Howard Baugh, World War II and Vietnam Pilots - Mr. Baugh will present stories, photographs, collectible items, and airplane models from his father's days of service as a Tuskegee Airman combat pilot to his own days of service in United States Air Force as a pilot during the Vietnam Conflict.

    Participants will get first-hand experience sculpting living trees,dwarfed by potting and wiring. Randy McKinney guides participants withinformation needed to start and succeed in bonsai. Mr. McKinney has wonnumerous awards for Bonsai, including Best In Show from the Virginia BonsaiSociety and the International Bonsai Club Award of Excellence, both in 2012. Hehas taught bonsai for over ten years and grown bonsais since 1975, with sometrees in his collection reaching over 40 years old.

    Cost: $40.
