Holiday Tour of Homes

Location: Port Norfolk

A festive, annual tradition in one of Portsmouth’s notable neighborhoods. Tour-goers will have access to the interiors of six festively decorated homes and Port Norfolk Baptist Church, all within about a half-mile radius in the neighborhood’s historic district. The holiday event offers homeowners and the neighborhood a chance to highlight the charm of its many architectural styles including Victorian, Vernacular, Dutch Colonial, Colonial Revival, Arts and Crafts and American Foursquare. For more information please visit http://www.portnorfolk.org

The Port Norfolk Civic League is proud to celebrate the sights and sounds of the season with our Holiday Tour of Homes December 13th from 2-6p.m.! The fabulous …homes on the tour this year are:

533 Cleveland Street (circa 1915)
This bungalow was home to Minnie Mangum – a modern day “Robin Hood” who embezzled money from her employer, the Commonwealth Building & Loan Association and gave it away to family and friends – over $2.8 million. She went to prison in 1956, serving 9 years.

2801 Bayview Boulevard (circa 1898)
Architect Rick Riven provided guidance on the restoration of this Queen Anne-style home. Ginna Nola, Interior Decorator at Willis, provided guidance on the interior. The movie “Jesse & Naomi” was filmed on site, starring Chelsey Crisp, Marilu Henner, Corbin Bernsen and Philip Boyd.

120 Mount Vernon (circa 1900)
This completely restored Victorian home was originally constructed for Norfleet. Renovations were first begun in 2007 by the previous owners. The current owners recently renovated the third floor into a home theater. The majority of the home’s furnishings are from Europe, and some of the chandeliers were imported from Italy.

623 Mount Vernon (circa 1910)
This two-story Transitional home has elements of the Arts and Crafts and Victorian periods. The current owners purchased the home in 2013 and have been renovating to bring the home to its former glory. The home features heirloom decorations and a gold Christmas tree in the living room.

347 Broad Street (circa 1900)
A unique Classic Greek Revival with 20ft Columns on the front facade. In 2012, the home was restored to a single family home from a duplex. The owners added an in-ground pool in 2014 and replaced the upstairs front porch this year. The home will feature Department 56 Ornaments and decorations, as well as an “upside down” tree in the upstairs library.

$12.00 the day of the event
$10.00 in advance

Proceeds from this event go to support the upkeep and maintenance of Reflection Walk. For more information: Email hometours@portnorfolk.org We hope to see you and appreciate your support!

Annual Olde Towne Scottish Walk

Location: Queen and Washington Streets to High Street Landing

The Olde Towne Scottish Walk is modeled after Scotland’s Hogmanay Festival, a day when townspeople honor their community and merchant’s, wishing all the best luck and prosperity in the coming year.  A procession of local family, friends, and visitors will be led by bagpipe-and-drum music down Queen and Washington Streets to High Street Landing for a flag raising ceremony that honors George Washington’s raising of the first flag, The Grand Union.
